The new Midland Type-F ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) is a mineral oil specifically designed for use in older Ford and Volvo vehicles with Borg-Warner automatic transmissions. "Type F" refers to a specific specification given by Ford for transmission fluid, namely M2C33-F.

"Type-F" is an older specification introduced by Ford in the 1960s. Type-F ATF has a higher coefficient of friction thanks to its special additivation, which is tailored to the requirements of these older transmission models and enables optimum shifting behavior.

Type-F automatic transmission fluid, which is colored red, can also be used in power steering systems, turbo clutches and hydraulic systems, depending on the requirements of the vehicle or unit manufacturers.

The ATFs prescribed by most vehicle manufacturers today, with specifications such as Dexron and/or Mercon, are not suitable for these older Ford transmissions. It is important to use the correct transmission fluid according to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications to ensure optimum performance, service life as well as ideal shifting behavior.
