Hill climb: Berguerand ahead of Steiner

Eric Berguerand won the last hill climb in Ayent-Anzère before the summer break with an undetected handicap: "As it turned out, I was driving with a broken shock absorber. The damage was probably still from Massongex and I hadn't noticed it. I had to set a really good time again in the last run to catch Marcel. I managed to do that with my personal best time of the day. But that was at the limit," he explained on AutoSprintCH.

So Marcel Steiner just missed the victory in Ayent-Anzère: If he hadn't had to shift down to first gear in the hairpin before the finish, the day win would have been possible. Then it would have been 2:2 in the hill climb races so far, but now it is 3:1 for Eric Berguerand. Right behind them is the young up-and-comer Robin Faustini. He only had to give up one third place to Joël Volluz and is in third place overall.

The next opportunity to attack for Marcel Steiner is St. Ursanne – Les Rangiers (19/20 August 2023). Eric Berguerand traditionally stays away from this race. But just one week later in Oberhallau, the titans will face each other again in the 2023 Swiss Hill Climb Racing Championship. Both drivers have positive memories of the Gurnigel race (9/10 September 2023), and for Marcel Steiner it is also his home race.

There is also something to report outside the top category: Vanessa Zenklusen was finally able to compete in Ayent-Anzère with her Subaru Impreza Type R. Before, she waited for her new gearbox and missed three races. Simon Wüthrich won in Ayent-Anzère with his Turbiene VW Golf II Turbo in the E1 category. Congratulations!
