The Swiss Championship is back

On the Tuesday before Motocross Wohlen, we were given a glimpse of the set-up. A team of over thirty volunteers and almost as many Swiss civil defence personnel were on site on this sunny day to erect the marquee, prepare the track, put up the barriers and lay pipes and cables. Water and electricity are laid across the site to the right locations especially for the motocross weekends. During the peak hours on Sunday, explains Ueli Hilfiker, the president of the Organising Committee, the Wohlen Motocross needs more electricity than the whole village.

On Saturday, the site is packed with people. A total of over 13,500 spectators attend the 69th International Wohlen Motocross over the two days. Over 400 riders take part. They speak of perfect conditions. On Saturday, the parched tracks still need watering. After a brief shower on Saturday evening, this is no longer necessary on Sunday. The brief rain shower did not dampen the Motocross Party on Saturday evening. The JB Ramblers Rockabilly & Rock’n’Roll got the guests going and rocked the marquee.
By Saturday evening, the site will resemble a festival grounds. This year, the  are the chosen performers. The band will entertain the festival tent with top-notch sound. The Motocross Party on Saturday evening has become a must-attend event in the region.

A special highlight this year: the return of the Swiss Championships after a break of several years. The Swiss Inter MX1 and Swiss Inter MX2 categories returned to the grounds at Hilfikon Castle. In these categories, Switzerland’s best motocross riders compete against one another and battle for precious points. This gives Motocross Wohlen even greater prestige and is a positive sign for the cooperation between the two associations,
SAM and Swissmoto.

On Sunday evening, Ueli Hilfiker and his team had already begun taking down tents and reconfiguring the track, as the equally traditional ‘licence-free’ motocross event takes place next Saturday. Alongside several club classes, the SAM’s Open and Quad categories will also be competing. Moped and pit bike riders will also be at the start, and admission is free.
