Since January 1, 2007, owners of tank systems – depending on the water
protection zone – no longer receive a notice from the respective cantonal
authority to carry out a tank revision. However, it is essential to regularly
and responsibly have the tank inspected by a professional. A properly
maintained oil tank is beneficial both for your wallet and for your safety and
the environment. For many years, we have been working in this field with the
company Erismann AG, a professional we are happy to recommend for these tasks.
Why Tank Revisions are Necessary
Regardless of the quality of the heating oil, it inevitably undergoes a
natural aging process over time, even without external influence. Due to heat,
exposure to light, contact with oxygen, microorganisms, the catalytic effect of
metals, and chemical compounds, certain residues form during the storage of heating oil. These accumulate along with condensation water at the bottom of
the tank and turn into sludge. A tank revision ensures that all residues are
removed.
What Does a Tank Revision Include?
The first step in a tank revision is to pump out the remaining heating oil from the tank. Then, all the contaminants that have settled on the inside
of the tank are removed.
All removable residues, water, and sludge are eliminated. This ensures
that no dirty heating oil is drawn in and supplied to the oil burner. To
prevent pitting corrosion, the inner walls of the tank are thoroughly
inspected.>
Once the cleaning is complete, a professional visual inspection of the
tank is carried out. During this inspection, the heating oil tank is checked
for cracks or other corrosion damage.
The proper disposal of waste produced during the tank revision and the
return of the remaining oil to your tank are included in the revision service.
How Often Should a Tank Revision be Done?
The frequency of cleaning a heating oil tank depends particularly on the
current condition of the tank system. In general, it is advisable to carry out
a thorough tank revision on steel tanks every 5 to 7 years and on plastic tanks
every 7 to 10 years.

Midland: A Brand of the Swiss Traditional Company Oel-Brack AG
The Midland brand was launched in 2004 by Oel-Brack
AG, a family business that had been manufacturing and importing products from
American oil companies under license for decades. Under its own Midland brand,
the Swiss family business trades in heating oil and fuels in Switzerland and
produces quality lubricants in Aargau (Hunzenschwil) for Switzerland and
abroad. In Switzerland alone, Midland lubricants are supplied to over 3,000 car
and truck garages, motorcycle dealers, garages, workshops, forestry offices and
industrial companies, while almost half of total production is exported.
