What kind of engine oil do i need?

Every engine is different, which is why there are different types of engine oils. To ensure that the engine is always optimally lubricated, the oil changes should also be carried out according to the manufacturer's specifications. With the right oil and the right change intervals, the lifespan of an engine can thus be extended. However, with the large number of engine oils that are now available, it is not always easy to keep track. We can help you find the right engine oil.

Engine oil is an essential component in the development of vehicles or internal combustion engines to ensure optimal lubrication. Therefore, every vehicle manufacturer specifies which oil must be filled into a particular model. Most vehicle manufacturers have developed their own so-called specifications, which serve as a key between the vehicle or the engine installed in it and the suitable oil. These specifications are usually found in the respective vehicle manual.

Once the appropriate specification is found, you can search for the right oil using this standard. Most standards are visible on the oil bottles. However, older standards that have been replaced by newer ones are often not found on the labels, making the search even more difficult. For this reason, Midland has developed a special specification search. By entering the specification, you can find all Midland products that meet the desired manufacturer's specification.

More questions about Engine Oil

In order to use the right engine oil, it’s necessary to clarify which specification the vehicle or engine requires. This can usually be found in the vehicle manual.

Generally, different engine oils that meet the specified specifications of the vehicle manufacturer can be mixed together. Thus, oils of different brands and different viscosities (e.g. 5W-30 and 10W-30) can be mixed without problems as long as both meet the specified specification.

The engine oil has various requirements that it must fulfill. The most important ones are:

  • Lubrication of sliding or rolling parts
  • Cooling the engine at places where the coolant cannot reach
  • Cleaning the engine
  • Sealing the ring gap between the piston and cylinder
  • Protecting the engine from corrosion, wear and deposits

The vehicle registration certificate does not show what oil is needed. However, the vehicle certificate can help find the right oil. Here is how the vehicle certificate can help find the right oil.
