Can you use any engine oil?
In order to use the right engine oil, it’s necessary to clarify which specification the vehicle or engine requires. This can usually be found in the vehicle manual.

The standard usually defines various parameters:
Within one standard, there are sometimes several suitable engine oils with different SAE viscosities. SAE viscosity refers to the well-known designations 0W-20, 5W-30, 10W-40, 20W-50, etc. This viscosity actually says nothing more than the flowability of the oil at different temperatures.
The lower the first number before the "W", the better the flowability of the oil even at colder temperatures. This value is relevant, among other things, for the cold-starting properties of an engine. The number after the dash indicates the flowability at 100°C. The higher this number, the better the load-bearing capacity of the lubricant film even at high temperatures.
Driving behavior can also have an influence on the choice of the right oil, since different properties of the oil are required depending on it.
With the specification search, you can find all the suitable engine oils for your vehicle with just a few clicks on Midland.
